How to Play Online Craps

Once your online casino account is funded, it is time to play craps. Some online craps software platforms will allow users to play without making a line bet. The come bet plays exactly like the pass line, except it is on a new number. For example, if the player bets the pass line, and the roll is a 4, the come bet is available for the next roll. If the player makes the come bet and the roll is a 5, that come bet moves to the 5. It wins on a 5 and loses on a 7, just like the pass line would. The pass line’s 4 plays independently. The don’t come works in the same way with the don’t pass as the come does to the pass line.

Other Types of Craps Bets

• Odds: All pass line, come, don’t pass and don’t come bets may have odds added once the point is established. There is no house edge on odds bets. The 4 and 10 pay 2/1, 5 and 9 pay 3/2 and 6 and 8 pay 6/5 from the pass line and come. These numbers reverse for the don’t pass and don’t come bets. From the pass line and come, the maximum odds at an online casino is usually double the amount of the flat bet. From the don’t side, the maximum win is usually double the original bet. The don’t side will lay more money than the expected win due to the true mathematical odds. Note that some online casinos offer five times craps odds. 
• Field: The field is in front of the line bets. This is a one-roll wager. The field wins on 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11 and 12. The 2 and 12 pay double. The other numbers pay even money. Another way to look at the field is that it loses on 5, 6, 7 and 8 and wins on all other rolls. 
• Hardways: There are four hardway bets. These are 4, 6, 8 and 10. The hardway is another way of saying doubles. A hard 4 is two 2s. A hard 6 is two 3s. The hardway bet wins if the number is rolled as doubles. It loses if it is rolled the easy way, meaning any other combination, or a 7 is rolled. The hard 6 and 8 pay 9/1. The 4 and 10 pay 7/1. Hardway bets are off on the come out roll unless the player turns them on. 
• Hop bets: There are four hop bets on a craps felt. These are the 2, 3, 11 and 12. It is based on the next roll. If the number comes, the bet wins. All other numbers make the hop bet lose. The 2 and 12 pay 30/1. The 3 and 11 pay 15/1. Some craps tables have hop bets for all numbers. Hardways pay 30/1. Easy ways pay 15/1. Most live casinos will accept hop bets on any number if called before the dice leave the idle of the table. 
• Any craps: The any craps bet is valid for one roll. If it is a 2, 3 or 12, the bet wins 7/1. 
• Any seven: Also known as big red, the bet pays 4/1 if a 7 is rolled. It loses on all other numbers. 
• Place bets: A place bet may be made on the 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10. The 4 and 10 pay 9/5. The 5 and 9 pay 7/5. The 6 and 8 pay 7/6. These bets win if the number is rolled and lose if a 7 comes. These bets do not work on the come out roll unless the player calls it that way. 
• Place to lose: Placing a number to lose means that the player thinks that a 7 will come before the number. This bet is available on 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 and 10. The 4 and 10 pay 2/5. The 5 and 9 pay 4/7. The 6 and 8 pay 4/5.
• Buying a number: Players may buy a number for a commission, as opposed to placing it. This is especially advantageous in the 4 and 10. The 4 and 10 pay 2/1, 5 and 9 pay 3/2, and 6 and 8 pay 6/5. All buy bets require a commission.
• Laying a number: Laying a number is like placing it to lose. It pays true odds, minus a 5% commission on the win. The 4 and 10 pay 1/2, 5 and 9 pay 2/3, and 6 and 8 pay 5/6, minus the commission. Online craps games have a bet called placing to lose. This plays the same as laying a number. However, the house advantage on this bet is double that of the lay bet with the commission. Never place a number to lose. Always lay it.
• Big 6 and Big 8: Big 6 and Big 8 are even money bets found on some felts by the field. These numbers pay 7/6 when placed, so you should avoid betting the big 6 and big 8 due to the excessive house edge.  

Craps House Edge for Every Bet

Craps is one of the best games to play at an online casino because it has a low house advantage, particularly the zero-advantage odds bet.

The odds bet in craps is among the best in the casino because it has zero house advantage, but players can only place it after placing a pass or don’t pass bet. As a result, the more money players can put on the odds bet, the more they can reduce the overall house advantage.
