PrizePicks Review
PrizePicks is a skill-based fantasy sports operator that takes a different approach to DFS than its mainstream competitors, such as FanDuel and DraftKings.
Whereas some DFS sites host games that involve building fantasy lineups and competing with other players for points, PrizePicks.com contests are much simpler and played against your own predictions.
In PrizePicks contests, players choose several athletes and make projections on the stats or fantasy totals achieved by their selections for payouts of up to 1,000x the entry fee.
In this PrizePicks review, BettingUSA will explain how the app works, discuss the new customer welcome bonus, and much more.
- Daily fantasy without the highly skilled competition
- Legal in most US states
- Make simple more/less projections to win money
Pros
Straightforward and engagingMake predictions and get paid if you’re rightMinimal time commitmentNo-strings welcome bonusCons
Limited deposit methodsMust play through deposits 1x before withdrawingPrizePicks is a daily fantasy sports site, but it’s much richer and engaging than a typical DFS operator. The concept makes PrizePicks.com an attractive choice for fans 19 or older in most of the US, including states like California, Texas, and Georgia, where there are limited ways to have action on the sports you watch at home.
A typical PrizePicks contest involves choosing 2-6 athletes, deciding whether their actual fantasy or statistical totals will be greater than/less than their projected totals, and watching the results roll in.
To summarize the above, PrizePicks differs from traditional daily fantasy sites in three ways:
- The goal is to predict whether athletes will exceed their PrizePicks projections in key stats, not to build a high-scoring fantasy team
- Players do not compete against one another in PrizePicks pick’em contests; they earn payouts for making accurate “more” or “less” predictions on athletes’ projected stat totals. However, PrizePicks also offers a player-vs-player variant in some states called Pick’em Arena.
- PrizePicks is far more convenient and straightforward. Fans can sign in, make their selections in 60 seconds flat, and settle in to watch the game. The PrizePicks experience does not involve hours of research and competing against highly skilled players who enter dozens of finely tuned lineups.
The PrizePicks concept is simple enough that anyone can pick it up and play, but savvy sports fans can still put their knowledge to use and potentially win money.

How PrizePicks Works
At its heart, PrizePicks operates on a simple concept of making more/less projections on fantasy totals or stat totals.
PrizePicks contests begin with the user selecting 2-6 athletes and deciding if they would rather make more/less projections on stat or fantasy point totals.
If the player selects the “single stat” option to make projections on player statistics, the next step is to choose which statistic to project. For example, a PrizePicks NBA game might have players choose points, assists, or rebounds, while an NHL game might have players choose between saves and shots on goal. Likewise, a golf contest might have players make longest drive projections or guess how many birdies a golfer will achieve in an upcoming tournament.
The PrizePicks interface displays a fantasy points or stats total beneath each athlete’s profile. From there, players project whether the athlete will exceed the PrizePicks projections.
PrizePicks offers two contest types, each with varying payouts depending on the number of athletes players add to the slate.
This brief video from PrizePicks explains the concept in simple terms:
Prize Picks Flex Play
Flex Play offers secondary prizes for coming up short on one or two projections at the cost of lower maximum payouts.
- 6-Player Slates: Pays 0.4x for four correction projections; 2x for five; 25x for six
- 5-Player Slates: Pays 0.4x for three correct; 2x for four; up to 15x for five
- 4-Player Slates: Pays 1.5x for three correct; 5x for four
- 3-Player Slates: Pays 1.25x for two correct; 2.25x for three
- 2-Player Slates: Pays 0.5x for one correct; 2x for two
Prize Picks Power Play
Power Play contests provide bigger payouts at the cost of no secondary prizes. Players either get every projection correct for a prize or win nothing.
- 4-Player Slates: Pays 10x-15x for four correction projections
- 3-Player States: Pays 5x for three
- 2-Player Slates: Pays 3x for two
If the above PrizePicks rules sound confusing, fear not. The PrizePicks app walks users through step by step. In practice, the PrizePicks experience is intuitive. The desktop website and mobile app direct users through picking players, choosing more or less on their projected totals, and selecting a contest type.
PrizePicks Reboots
PrizePicks Reboots keep fans in the game when one or more of their athletes exit the game early.
In short, the Reboot policy is a customer-friendly rule that prevents players from losing outright due to bad beats like game-ending injuries.
When a player qualifies for a Reboot, PrizePicks removes the affected athlete and downgrades the lineup one level:
- 6-Pick Flex becomes a 5-Pick Flex
- 5-Pick Flex becomes a 4-Pick Flex
- 4-Pick Flex becomes a 3-Pick Flex
- 4-Pick Power Play becomes a 3-Pick Power Play
- 3-Pick Power Play becomes a 2-Pick Power Play
- 3-Pick Flex becomes a 2-Pick Power Play
- 2-Pick Power Play is refunded
If multiple athletes in a lineup qualify for Reboots, PrizePicks will downgrade it multiple levels.
PrizePicks Reboots apply under the following circumstances:
- The player selected MORE on the athlete’s projection
- The athlete leaves the game in the first half (NFL, CFB, NBA, WNBA) or before two plate appearances (MLB)
- The athlete does not return for the rest of the game
Note: The PrizePicks Reboot policy does not apply when customers select LESS on athletes who leave the game early. If the athlete didn’t exceed the projection before leaving, it’s treated as a win.
PrizePicks Demons and Goblins
Demons and Goblins give PrizePicks players the opportunity to go for high-risk, high-reward payouts (up to 1,000x) or play it safe with low-risk predictions with lower payouts.
Red icons on the projection board indicate Demon predictions with enhanced payouts of up to 1,000x. Demon predictions are much more difficult to get right, but when they do hit, the payouts are immense.
Green icons indicate Goblin predictions, which are easier to get right but result in lower-than-average payouts.
Players can add multiple Demons and Goblins to their lineups or mix and match as they please. PrizePicks always displays the adjusted payout after players select Demons and Goblins but before they lock in their lineups.
Note: Demons and Goblins are only available for MORE predictions.
PrizePicks Streaks
PrizePicks offers a free-to-play variant of its games called Streaks in select states.
Players can participate by signing into PrizePicks every day and making picks. As they go on win streaks, they rack up increasingly valuable rewards and cash prizes. For example, fans who go on two-pick win streaks get free entry into 4-pick Power Lineups with cash prizes.
The longer the streak, the bigger the potential reward. Fans who go all the way can reach the top prize of $1 million.
PrizePicks Arena Explained
PrizePicks Arena is a class of peer-to-peer pick ’em fantasy contests in which players compete against each other instead of against the house.
The concept is the same as regular pick ’em fantasy contests other than some minor tweaks in the payout rules.
Just like standard pick ’em games, PrizePicks Pick ’Em Arena contests involve selecting athletes and making predictions for real money payouts of up to 10x the entry fee.
Here’s how PrizePicks Arena works:
- Log in to the PrizePicks app and select a sport
- Choose two, three, or four athletes
- Select “More” or “Less” for each athlete’s projected stat total
- Choose an entry fee of $5, $10, $20, $50, or $100
- Submit your predictions
That’s all there is to entering Arena contests, and anyone familiar with regular PrizePicks contests should feel right at home up to this point.
After players submit their lineups, PrizePicks groups them according to their entry fees, number of projections, and each player’s skill level. Essentially, groups are like skill-matched mini-tournaments.
PrizePicks Pick ’Em Arena Prizes
There are two ways players can win money in Pick ’Em Arena contests.
1. Submit A Perfect Lineup
Players who submit perfect lineups win instant payouts based on the number of predictions they made:
- Get 4/4 predictions correct: 10x payout
- Get 3/3 predictions correct: 5x payout
- Get 2/2 predictions correct: 3x payout
PrizePicks Arena games award payouts to perfect lineups regardless of how the other players in the contest score. Even if multiple players in a group submit perfect lineups, they all receive full payouts.
2. Get First Place in Your Group
If no group member submits a perfect lineup, PrizePicks issues tournament-style payouts to the players with the best lineups.
PrizePicks Arena contests use a points system to rank players’ lineups:
- Correct prediction: 1 point
- Athlete does not play: 0.5 points
- Tied projection: 0.5 points
- Reboots and incorrect predictions: 0 points
The player in any group whose lineup gets the most points wins up to 10x their entry fee. If multiple lineups tie for first place, those players split the prize pool. Remember, the exception is if multiple players tie for first place with perfect lineups. In that case, they all receive full payouts and do not have to split the prize pool.
And finally, here’s another video from PrizePicks explaining how Pick ‘Em Arena works:
PrizePicks Refer-a-Friend Program
Players who find PrizePicks worthy of referring to their friends may invite people they know and receive $25 in promo funds for each person they refer.
To refer a friend, users can log in to their PrizePicks accounts, open the user menu and select “invite friends” to see their unique referral code. From there, users can share their referral code to begin earning money by referring their friends.
PrizePicks App Review
The entire PrizePicks business model revolves around simplicity, and that philosophy carries over into the mobile app.
Users should have no trouble navigating the app and entering their first contest because PrizePicks designed the interface to guide players through each game step by step.
The PrizePicks app gets players started immediately after logging in by displaying a list of athletes scheduled to play PrizePicks games from various sports leagues. From there, customers can use simple filters near the top of the screen to sort athletes by sport (MLB, MMA, NASCAR, etc.) and add selections as they wish.
After making 2-6 selections, players can tap the “go” button to make more/less selections on each athlete’s projected statistical or fantasy points total. Next, users select a game type (flex play or power play as described above) and a buyin amount.
The PrizePicks app shows users how much they are risking on each contest, along with the potential payouts for getting 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6 picks correct. Players confirm their buyins and payout potential before paying their entry fees, so users always know how much is at risk and what they stand to win.
After entering contests, players can follow the PrizePicks app for live scoring data and updates.
PrizePicks is available for iPhone and Android devices. Desktop users may also visit PrizePicks.com to play online.
